HOLLYWOOD BRIDGE CLUB

We started with a basic simple hand. You have 2 unavoidable spade losers, 2 diamond losers and 1 heart loser. If diamonds are 4-3, your contract is unbeatable. You will ruff your 2 diamond losers in dummy and lose 2 spades and 1 heart. If you make the mistake of finessing the HQ, the defense will play 3 rounds of trumps and you’ll go 2 down. Go up with the HA, play 3 rounds of diamonds ruffing the 3^rd, come back to your hand with a club and ruff another diamond. These were the four hands:

HAND OF THE WEEK 2-1112

The following hand was played last week at the Club. Some of you might recognize it. Most pairs reached a game contract in spades, diamonds or NT. Only one pair bid 6 diamonds and went one down. You are East playing 6 Diamonds. South leads the 9 of Spades. Compare the alternative lines of play and explain which one you would choose.
